The reasoning is that these names are too common. According to the CBC, “In a tradition that began more than 300 years ago, the name Singh is given to every baptized male and Kaur to every baptized female Sikh.” Hmm. It’s not like immigration policy ever pretends not to discriminate. But still. This seems kind of ridiculous.
