		<description>Love the new look to the old blog--what a great birthday gift!  Also, it&#039;s so interesting the issue of gifts.  I suppose I can see how it can be taken as a &quot;colonial&quot; mentality, and I suppose your own identity as a North American woman, with Candian Citizenship and a US job only heightens this sense of Western paternalism, but truthfully, it&#039;s just polite to bring a gift.  And it reminds me of how difficult cross-cultural communication (or miscommunication) can be--how our best intentions can be misconstrued by others, and if actual language is a factor, well that seems to just double the trouble, so to speak.  Anwyay, if you can fit some extra razors and tampons in your suitcase I bet they would make good bargaing chips and poential good will gifts.</description>
